The Black Panther Party for Self-Defense was a black revolutionary social political organization which was active maninly in the United States from 1966 until 1982. It also included international chapters. It was founded in Oakland, California by Huey Newton and Bobby Seale on October 15, 1966 and the organization initially set forth a doctrine calling primarily for the protection of black neighborhoods from police brutality.
Tonight I am joined by one of its former members Ras Munyiga Nosakhere who began selling newspapers for the party he was just ten years old. Ras Munyiga Nosakhere is now active with the Black Autonomy Federation. Many former panthers are still being held as political prisoners by the United States government and some are more known than others but all deserve our attention and advocacy.
