Tonight we are discussing the history of the Young Lords Party which started out as a Puerto Rican street youth gang as protection from violent racist attacks in white neighborhoods and police oppression. The street gang would evolve into a revolutionary Puerto Rican nationalist group that partnered with the Black Panther Party and worked in solidarity within communities of non-white people to administer survival programs for the poor. The organization like most of its time, fell victim to the FBI's illegal COINTELPRO.
